Assess the tissue
Training should explain relevant surface and underlying anatomy, tissue depth, movement, pressure, blood supply, nerves and the anatomical variations that may make a piercing unsuitable.
Mark and confirm
Placement should account for anatomy, symmetry, jewellery, movement and the client’s informed preference. The client should be able to review and approve the marks before the procedure.
Plan for healing
Angle, depth, jewellery style and initial dimensions affect comfort and healing. A technically possible piercing is not always a responsible choice for a particular client or site.
